Much of Oregon is closing down for business to combat the spread of the coronavirus, but you can still gamble at the state’s casinos.

Spirit Mountain Casino in Grande Ronde and Chinook Winds Casino Resort in Lincoln City are continuing regular hours.

“Everything is normal,” said a Spirit Mountain employee who answered the phone Tuesday morning.

Both Spirit Mountain and Chinook Winds say they are taking the coronavirus pandemic seriously and that they have increased cleaning of high-traffic areas and frequent-touch items such as slot machines. Chinook Winds says it has begun to “pre-screen all children arriving at the Play Palace with a no-touch thermometer. Any child exhibiting signs of fever or illness will not be allowed admittance.”

Spirit Mountain has postponed its Wine Fair, originally scheduled for April 4, but live music on Friday and Saturday nights will continue.

Seven Feathers Casino Resort in Canyonville is staying open at this time, though the six-days-a-week Bingo games have been suspended and most of the restaurants are closed. The Three Rivers casinos in Florence and Bend also remain open.

Washington state has been hard-hit by the coronavirus outbreak, and so ilani Casino Resort in Ridgefield is closing Tuesday.

Said ilani president and general manager Kara Fox-LaRose in a statement:

“Despite dedicating additional resources for sanitation efforts and limiting certain aspects of our operations, it is apparent that the correct response to this public health crisis is to do our part in slowing its progression.”

Washington sports betting was the first to legalize in 2020, though the outcome wasn’t what some wanted to see.

The state’s legislature legalized sports betting in Washington at tribal casinos only. Mobile betting will only be allowed while on tribal land.

Where can I bet on sports in Washington?

Sports betting in Washington will be allowed only at tribal casinos once it launches. Just because a tribe can offer WA sports betting does not necessarily mean it will choose to do so.

There are 30 tribal casinos in the state of Washington operated by 24 tribes:

The legislature ultimately preferred a slower approach to WA sports betting than some bills that would have legalized sports betting at cardrooms with open mobile betting.

Whether any tribes launch an app for Washington sports betting while on tribal land is up in the air. For instance, casinos in Mississippi have had the option to launch a mobile sports betting app geofenced to the casino since sports betting started in August 2018, but none have.
